Conscious Intention, Deliberate Desire, and Big Decisions

The theme this week is knowing (and getting!) what you really want.

Desire vs. Intention

Desire is simply what you want.

Intention is the energy and action that align to get you there.

It’s not just about having a plan; it’s about the mindset and emotions you choose to embody as you take each step.

For example, let’s say you desire to have a half-gallon of milk in your refrigerator (and avoid chips in your pantry). Your intentions might look like this:

  • Action: Stop by the store on the way home. Head straight to the dairy aisle. Leave without distractions.
  • Mindset: Stay focused and efficient—milk is the mission.
  • Emotions: Embody resolve to resist temptation (hello, chip aisle!) and patience for any possible delays at checkout. Not-so-helpful emotions? Curiosity—there’s no need to explore beyond what’s needed. Or resentment—why carry unresolved frustration into a simple task?

Have you ever experienced a time when your desire and intentions didn’t quite match up?

The Heart of Decision-Making: Trusting Your Values, Intuition, and Belief in the Future

Think back to the most defining decisions in your life—a new job, a relationship ending, moving to a new city.

Were they the result of a perfect plan?

Probably not.

Most life-altering choices don’t come with a clear roadmap.

Yes, logic and analysis play a part, but the real force behind courageous decisions often comes from a deeper place.

It’s the pull of your core values, the quiet certainty of your intuition, and an unshakable belief that the future holds something greater.

These are the forces that guide us, especially when the path ahead is uncertain.

Have you ever found yourself waiting for the “perfect plan,” only to realize that what you really needed was the courage to follow your heart and trust the process?

I am inspired by these quotes today.

“Sometimes, you have to step outside of the person you’ve been and remember the person you were meant to be. The person you want to be. The person you are.” – HG Wells

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” – Nelson Mandela
